Looking for a way to help? Consider volunteering. There are many opportunities for you to share your time and energy in promoting mental health awareness. In addition to the opportunities listed below, you can become an advocate for mental health by contacting our elected officials with concerns about mental health topics or the mental health system. For more information about becoming an advocate, click here.

Compeer
Age Eligibility: Adults Only (18+)
Contact Email: scaraco@mhacentralcarolinas.org
Contact Phone: 704.365.4380
Become a friend (compeer) to someone with mental illness and you will help them in many ways. Persons matched with a Compeer volunteer often experience fewer hospitalizations and increased self-esteem, and they are more likely to adhere to their medication and treatment programs. For additional information about the Compeer program, click here.

MHA Ambassadors
Age Eligibility: Adults Only (18+)
Contact Phone: 704.365.3454
Volunteers are trained on the mission, vision, purpose and history of the MHA. Once trained, Ambassadors are called upon to represent the MHA or accompany staff to various health fairs, civic presentations, campus or church meetings, etc. Ambassadors typically have a personal story to share as a way to ultimately help break the stigma of mental illness.

MHA Board of Directors

Contact Phone: 704.365.3454
Our Board of Directors leads MHA of Central Carolinas in its role as the community's leading voice to promote mental wellness, to reduce stigma and to advocate for effective mental health services. The Board establishes policies and objectives, and then translates these objectives into action through individual and committee efforts to ensure balanced programs. The Board is also responsible for overseeing the financial health of MHA.

MHA Committees
Age Eligibility: Adults Only (18+)
Contact Phone: 704.365.3454
Several of the MHA Board's standing committees incorporate a limited number of community volunteers with relevant interest and expertise. Committees include Mecklenburg Program, Cabarrus Program, Development, Human Resources and Public Policy. Additionally, two of the MHA's program areas - Compeer and Multicultural Advocacy - incorporate community volunteers through an Advisory Council and a Coalition respectively.

MHA Young Affiliates
Age Eligibility: Adults Only (18+)
Contact Phone: 704.365.3454
Volunteer with this energetic group of 30 and under professionals and help raise awareness and funds for MHA through special events such as an annual spring golf tournament.

Seasonal Projects
Age Eligibility: Adults Only (18+)
Contact Phone: 704.365.3454
We have varied project needs on a seasonal basis. These projects might include research, curriculum development, or assistance with administrative tasks in the office or at special events.

Speakers Bureau
Age Eligibility: Adults Only (18+)
Contact Phone: 704.365.3454
If you are a mental health professional and would like to volunteer to speak on a mental health topic, consider joining our Speakers Bureau. The MHA will offer to the community, a menu (list) of local mental health (or related) professionals and their preferred topics. The MHA will promote speakers and their topics on our web site as well as in printed materials, and facilitate coordination of speaking engagements throughout the year.
