Bhutanese Teens Receive Suicide Prevention Training

On December 14, 2013, about two dozen youth learned QPR suicide prevention skills in an event organized by the Bhutanese Community Association of Charlotte.  Certified QPR Trainer Perry Griffin, the MHA's Multicultural Advocate, led the training with support from MHA's Compeer & Education Coordinator Carey Davies.  After the training, Perry said,  "I believe this is a great start to help understand suicide, its warning signs, and methods to help those living with suicidal thoughts.”  The suicide rate of Bhutanese refugees after resettlement has hit the national top rate in the United States since the resettlement began in 2008.
